We are bingeing on some pastries to go with our midmorning coffee so I made it the theme of my walk today to do pastry-shop-scouting that incorporates strenuous walking. I was not disappointed because the one I chose amongst the many pasticcerias around Noto as shown on Google map had me scaling up to the top of the town through steeply ascending alleys, panting and puffing in the rain, yes, it was drizzling but that’s part of the thrill.
Reaching my destination I noticed the store’s signage with an image of John F. Kennedy as the one we regularly drive past but never thought it to be a pastry shop. A bar, yes, but not a house of sweets although it would be interesting to know the connection between the US President and their passion for pastries and that I would have to wait until I can speak better Italian as the 90-year old signora who runs the shop couldn’t understand the way I was speaking her language.
Entering the shop is like walking through an art gallery and what’s more, their cannoli are so good I promise to go back despite the strenuous climb to get there!
