Last few days

We have been doing many things before we lock up the house. H  is putting the finishing touches to the kitchen - tiling and plumbing. As for me, I am clearing up the garden,  the house and packing our bags. We don’t expect to come back to France for 3 months.

We leave Friday by car with some household things and some French products like cheese, wine and honey. These three are what we are going to miss in Belgium. As to bread and cakes, luckily, Belgium makes them as good but not better than France!

Our trip which will pass through Italy, Switzerland, Luxembourg (and finally Belgium) will take 1 1/2 days because we will sleep on the way at an autoroute stop. We are used to sleeping in the car with seats reclined and all windows covered with curtains. Like France, all autoroutes stops of these 3 countries are well-equipped with showers, toilets and restaurants. Next day, we take our breakfast and lunch at some village highlighted on the map. (In a road map, towns and villages that are highlighted in yellow means they are recommended for tourists). This is our joy of travelling, saving money on hotels but enjoying good restaurants!

We will go straight to a furnished apartment which we found and rented through the internet.

So there you are - I will update you of our life in Belgium!

Herbs

Hmmmm…. the aroma wafts in the air, around the house, in all the rooms.   It creates a sense of tranquility, so calming, so soothing.  I am talking about herbs,  herbs that I have been harvesting from my garden since yesterday.

Sage, verbena, rosemary, mint, thyme, oregano….. It’s the time to harvest them, to dry them and then, to store them for use during the long months of winter.

The mixture of verbena and mint makes an excellent tea! It aides digestion and a good night’s sleep. The infusion of sage and rosemary, it’s my formula for clean scalp and shiny hair. Otherwise, all are excellent for cooking, as potpourri or simply hang them, upside down, on the kitchen wall or ceiling to give a more rustic feel.

Bad Fall for YSL

The 70-year old couturier stumbled on the pavement and collapsed. His fall, occurred early afternoon Friday in Paris while on his way out of a grand hotel on the 18th arrondissement (near Montmarte), is not serious and doesn’t need hospitalisation.

Passers-by came to his aide, while he stayed immobile on the road, before help arrived.

YSL is doing fine, declared a spokesman, contradicting the information, according to some, that he had been a victim of a heart attack

Paris declare war on cigarette stubs

After the dog poops perceived by 72% of Parisians as the principal cause of dirtiness in the capital, cigarette stubs are the target of the Mayor of Paris. Throwing of cigarette butts on the pavement is already liable to a fine of 183 euros and sanctions are going to be hard for shops or public establishments for stubs found on their doorstep.

Paris celebrates its 5th White Night

From 7pm Saturday to 7am Sunday, Paris becomes the meeting place of nightbirds. Museums, libraries, swimming pools or churches will be on show, for one night, in their dazzling lights.

The highlight of the show will be the illumination of the Obelisque of the Place de la Concorde in Klein (tinge of Cobalt ). Also, there will be an underwater concert, dancing lights in front of the Biblioteque Nationale de France and gigantic creations in some quarters like Goutte d’Or, Trocadéro, Beaugrenelle, Bercy, le Marais.

The most interesting part – the public will have free access all night to 3 shuttle buses, 6 boats plying the Seine, Metro line 14 and RER C as well as 2,350 rent-free bicycles.

This Parisian manifestation has been very successful that other cities in the world have followed suit: Brussels, Rome, Naples, Montreal, Rigga (Lituania), Madrid, Toronto, Tel Aviv, Gaza and soon, Lisbon, Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro, New York and Tokyo.

Tell him…Tell her

The madness of matchmaking sites! (but this one is becoming a huge success in France!)

Dilelui.com
rencontrer l’âme soeur à metro………..meet your soulmate on the metro
dire “je t’aime” à l’inconnu du metro………….say “I love you” to a stranger
on the metro

vous l’avez vu, il vous a plu……………..you saw him, he liked you

You saw this beautiful woman on the train, she was looking at you, you were magnetized by her, but you became so dumbfounded, speechless.. and she got down to the next station, and you lost her…

Don’t fret! You can still find her, and you can even send her a message!

Through Dilelui.com’s search engine, you can filter the parameters like which type of transport you were both in (bus, train, metro), the date/time of day, the type/color of clothes she was wearing, the magazine/book she was reading….

Send her an SmOS message and if she knows that it’s her and she answers, then you got her!

Note: both of you should be subscribers to the site

Are you in Paris and would like to buy your absent hubby/boyfriend some clothes but not sure if they would fit him? Here is good news!

Go to the shops of “Celio” and you will find a group of young men who will try them for you. They call themselves the SHOPPENBOYS and they come in different body sizes … S, M, L, XL….

You see them hanging around inside the shop wearing nothing but red shorts and a smile! If your husband is Medium size, just choose Monsieur Medium and he will try your chosen shirt or pair of trousers. The service is free, by the way!

Cute huh? Plans for SHOPPENGIRLS are now in the can. What do you think?
